We hear it all the time. How gratitude can do wonders.

We are advised to do so frequently: take a few moments to be grateful.

Really.. what can we do with gratitude? How can one be grateful? What should we be grateful for?

The day before yesterday, I was grateful that I had found green shoes. Do you know how hard it was for me to find them? and in my shoes size? and not my alternate shoes size, My feet are a .5 so you know my struggle. Yesterday, I didn’t feel very grateful. I felt anxious for no reason, had a migraine, felt weak, and unmotivated. I also didn’t like my hairstyle anymore. However, my underlying thought was to acknowledge the fact that the day would have been worse if I was not working from home. I could choose from my tea cabinet a flavour that would cheer me up, I could wear comfortable clothes, I could take breaks without interruptions, and I could light a candle. I have more to be grateful for than not.

But really, how can one be grateful?

Lots of things are a choice and not surprisingly an attitude of gratitude is one choice that you can make should you choose to.

Deciding to be appreciative takes effort. However, the decision to be aware of blessings requires one to be intentional and to dig deep enough to identify what to be grateful for.
